The Curriculum Vitae
You never get a second chance to make a first impression
so here are some tips on how to ensure your CV gets noticed.
- Ensure your CV is printed on good quality white
paper
- Make sure there are no spelling mistakes –
attention to detail
- Do not include a photograph unless asked to do so
- CVs should be no more than 2 pages long
- Do not use folders or covers - keep it simple
- Contact details should be at the top (date of birth/marital
status are not necessary)
- Academic and Professional qualifications should
follow contact details
- When applying for a professional post, experience
is of high importance and should appear before your
qualifications
- Universities should be named, schools are not necessary
unless you have just left
- Follow with an overview of yourself and your skills
- Use bullet points and plenty of white space
- Start with your most recent position and work backwards
- Cover any periods of unemployment - no gaps
- Include job titles, key functions, achievements,
business type for each post
- Only include salary details and reasons for leaving
if asked to do so
- School leavers/students should include memberships
of school clubs/societies etc
